YOUNG LIONS THAIBOXING AND FITNESS - TRAINERS - Head Trainer: Rav Sidhu
Head Trainer: Rav Sidhu

Rav started his martial arts training at the age of 14 in 1992 under the guidance of Renshi Dave Hussey (4th Dan Black Belt).

Rav took up two styles of martial arts, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Zen Do Kai Freestyle. After putting a lot of hard work and dedication into training, Rav got his black belt in both styles in 1994.

It was in early 1995 that Rav was awarded the title of ‘Sempai’ meaning instructor, and in late 1995 got his Shodan (1st Dan ranking) after an impressive weapons grading.

In 1993 Rav travelled to the birth place of Muay Thai, Thailand. It was there Muay Thai became Rav’s passion and life. He loved every aspect of Muay Thai, the lifestyle, the Thai culture, the people he met through the sport and the fitness he has gained.

Rav now travels to Thailand on a regular basis to improve his own techniques and to immerse himself in the Thai culture. When in Bangkok, Thailand, Rav trains under Master Yhodpet. Rav has also trained in Singapore and Malaysia on numerous occasions.

Rav has become heavily involved in the Muay Thai industry working in various areas of the sport. He was the commentator for Adelaide’s first world title fights back in 1999, and had his own Muay Thai column "Rav’s Ringside Roundup" with a New Zealand based magazine ‘Fighttimes’. He was an editorial assistant with International kickboxer magazine and has had his work published with various magazines ‘Blitz’ magazine (Aust), Combat (U.K) and Australian Boxing News (Aust).

Through his passion in Muay Thai, he has mixed and trained with some of the celebrities of the sport and became good friends with them.

Rav is also a keen competitor, and has taken part in Muay Thai, freestyle and full contact fights in South Australia, interstate and overseas.

All up he has an impressive record of 42 wins with 9 losses. He was the former Australian A.F.F.F Lightweight Champion and UMTF Super 8 Lightweight champion.

He was also the 1994/95 South Australian Lightweight Freestyle champion, and was also runner up at the AMA Full Contact titles in 94. Rav is one of the most experienced and respected trainers in Australia.

Rav’s other interests include cooking, motor racing, especially Formula One and the Aussie V8 Supercars, teaching Kickboxing Circuit (fitness class), personal training, fishing and just catching up with friends for a meal or coffee.

Rav is also keen on flying and have flown on many occasions in light aircraft.

” I have travelled to Thailand to experience the level of Muay Thai standard. It is a trip that every Muay Thai student should consider if they are to get the "feel" of Muay Thai and the skills that can be achieved. Pictures from my last visit can be found in our galleries”
